Born Ruth Jerraisetti Harris in Oka Tamuning, Guam, Ruth is the youngest of eight children. As a young child she began telling stories, developing unique characters, and conjuring fantastical worlds in her mind. As she grew older, a thirst for reading overcame her and she devoured all kinds of books, finding kindred spirits in classic novelists such as Dickens, Bronte, and Fitzgerald. She started writing her first novel at age eleven. After high school she attended the Art Institute of Phoenix to pursue her other great passion: Art. Ruth now lives with her husband and four sons in Springville, Utah.

very well thought out
By mommytothree
This book was not really my genre, But I gave it a go and I am so glad I did. The book is imaginative and well thought out. It is a little slow to progress because the writer has a great knack for detail. The story starts out with a fire and a girl running. She is in the hospital and has no concept of language and can't speak to anyone in English. She is taken to an orphange where she grows and learns, making a friend and learning new things of her special powers.Follow the path with Gwen of findering her way in life. There are many peeks into what the story will eventually unfold (I am sure sicne there is said to be 6 books total).

5 stars!
By Megan
I just finished this last night. A GOOD read - some deep things in it, BUT hey life isn't always warm and fuzzy. Good character development, you really feel - good or bad - what the characters are going through due to the writing skill of Craddock. It was a page turner and I cannot wait for the second book! It will be a six-book series, SO if you're looking for a new series to get into then check this book out and get it asap.

Excellent story despite the 'immediate' style
By James A. Wilson
I highly recommend 'The Forsaken.' It is an excellent story, and story trumps everything else.
I have a very hard time reading any book written in the 'immediate' style; most of the time I just toss them aside after a few pages. I have extreme difficulty with 'she went left, she goes right, she thinks, she says,' all that kind of thing. I mention this because I have such an intense dislike for the style that it keeps me from giving the book five stars. Prejudice, I know. I won't be paying much mind to that trend at all, unless...it's a really good story. The first time I read a book in the 'immediate' style all the way through without forcing myself was with 'The Hunger Games' and its sequels. The stories captured me despite my dislike for the style.
And now it's happened again! 'The Forsaken' is a good read, it's interesting, engaging and unusual. It has some very inventive creations in it, and odd ways of using magic and mystery that made it feel new, almost real. Ms. Craddock has a great skill in storytelling that could only be enhanced by returning to a more traditional style (sorry, reflexive knee jerk reaction) but like Ms. Collins, somehow takes that awkward immediate style and still makes the story shine through.
The editing could use a little more polish in 'The Forsaken;' there are a few words that are misused several times, and a few misspellings made it through, but these technical issues are few and far between, and not enough to often break the reading reverie.
'The Forsaken' transcends the style and any technical caveats; I fell right into it, and I recommend it to anyone. I have the paperback, but it's only $3 for the Kindle version and it's worth the price either way.
If you want to see what sort of books I like for comparison, check out my Shelfari page: [...] It's not up-to-date this year, but there are enough books listed judge whether my opinion should mean anything to you.
Get 'The Forsaken' and enjoy the ride. I eagerly await the sequel.
