Coding Club books excellent for youth beginners

I am not a programmer but I wanted to get my kids and some friends started with an after school club, with me as teacher/facilitator. The Coding Club books were ideal. They're visually appealing and well organized. They offer challenges for those who can handle them, but also allow everyone to get the programs working.

I "taught" (guided) the kids through books 1 and 2. I found book 3 to be too complex for me to teach, and also better structured for the kids to engage on their own, working at their own pace. They love the game-style apps.

I recommend this series for 8-15 year olds beginning their exploration of programming.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

I haven't even finished reading the book but I was compelled to do this. This book is awesome! CC Mackenzie is definitely now on my favorite authors list. If you really get into books and the characters like me then you're gonna love this book. It's really nice to see the continued interaction between Nico and Bronte and Alexander and with the newest addition Josh! I have to restrain myself from lol. I know some people are gonna be frustrated with the length of time Alexander and Rosie is taking to sort out their feelings for each other but I believe it's worth it. So buy the book and start reading, and you can check out the other 2 books in this series "Reckless Nights in Rome" and "A stormy Spring". Hope this is not the end of this series.

(UPDATE) 4 hours later, ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! Yes it was frustrating at times wanting to get to the end but it was worth it and I'm happy to know this is not the last of this series. Woo Hoo can't wait!

I enjoyed these characters especially Rosie and Alexander. Although some parts were a little predictable I still thought the author kept me on my toes. These two are a freakin riot, friends, secretly in love and so much more. Love Bronte and Nico too great secondary characters, they make the book that much better. Love the meddling town, sometimes though I wanted to slap those gossipers and the petty bull crap they cause but I loved it. I loved the way Rosie is (...and she's back) lol too cute and Alexander's way of running his tongue over his top teeth when he's irritated which seems to be quit a lot at times. I just enjoyed the banter and flirty eyes and kisses...super sexy and the Love Muscle too. Josh made the book too, he's super cute a total flirt and just too funny. All around great read, cute, sweet, funny and loving all in one. 4.5 stars review by upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com - Nanee

What can I say this story is amazing. I can picture it being movie worthy. I mean the action, the suspense, the romance from this novel had me from front to back in one read. I will gladly read any book from CC MacKenze without a shadow of a doubt. Keep up the wonderful gift you have CC :)

A nice start

This book contains some very good information for someone with a general interest in Rastafari. My chief complaint would be that overall the book is too general and contains items that I didn't feel were pertinent to the subject. The editing seemed choppy but it hits the high points for someone with a cursory interest.

Not Super Relevant.

First, I'd like to send big love to the author for writing a book on Rastafari and for reaching out to those people who have the "Rasta heart." A great idea! Five stars on that front.

The reason I gave this book three stars: I didn't find that the information in it was very pertinent. Most of the book is spent discussing the properties of melanin, black inventors and their inventions, quoting Bob Marley lyrics and speeches by M.L.K. Jr, Marcus Garvey, and H.I.M. Haile Selassie. Interesting things all of them-- and related to Rastafari, although sometimes in a generalized (and very tangential) way, but I thought it had little to do with the specific subject.

Could it be that there just isn't THAT much to say about white Rastas? The author summed it up very nicely in the first pages: Rastafari is open to everyone, regardless of their color. Rastafari is a calling of the heart and an elevation of the consciousness rather than anything having to do with race or nationality . Rastas are born-- not converted. She did touch a bit on the whys and hows of dreadlocks, general Rasta beliefs to live by, a bit about the Rasta diet and a few Ital recipes ( although some included oil, and beef suet?), and about Rasta Sabbath celebrations, which was very interesting.

My suggestion would have been to take what she had to say about white rastas and include that as a section in one of her other books on Rastafari in general (instead of trying to expand the subject into a book of its own.)

Great info and tips from a pro

This is a short and effective guide to landscape photography. It will not make you a pro overnight, but it will provide a solid foundation to develop your skill as a photographer. The Author covers everything from the basics of light, aperture, I SO, etc. to composition techniques. I would recommend this as a short read to learn landscape photography.

On the downside, the author's grammar and sentence structure is incorrect or slightly confusing, but does not detract from the book at all. Additionally, more photos providing examples, especially in the composition section would be useful. Otherwise, I highly recommend this book to any new (ish) photographer.

Pros: Informative, succinct, great photos, quick read, definitely helpful
Cons: Minor grammar issues, could use more photos

As a "Weekend" photographer my pictures always without exception appear to be lacking in composition and realism.
This book has proved to be a huge help for me in getting back to the basics of photography. Some of it's content was tactics and procedures that I had learned years ago but forgotten. I think as we age, we tend to forget the small things that once enriched our lives.

A Simple but Comprehensive Guide to Ancient Chinese Medicine

Ted Kaptchuk has distilled the essence of ancient Chinese medicine in this clear expose. He explains the body organs as they were understood by the ancient Chinese, the acupuncture points and meridians, the fluids and flows, both of energy and fluids, in easy-to-understand language. A+ for clarifying the concepts of this medicine. With some imagination you may even begin to understand how such an ancient art could tackle modern challenges like AIDS and cancer, which it does. This book is a classic that will be around for a long time. The nice thing about it is that it clarifies ancient Chinese medicine to a person with no background in the subject.

Love this book!

Love this book! First of all let's set the record straight, once again. This is G.K. (Kenneth's wife).
This book has become one of my staples, lately. Nothing short of five stars, for sure. Not for everybody either. I have been into alternative medicine for quite some time, therefore, I fully understand these concepts. Unless you are a healer, a self-healer, an alternative medicine practitioner, or someone in the alternative healing/medicine field, I would not recommend it otherwise. Extremely informative, poetic in some ways, this book gently navigates you into the alternative fields of the Traditional Chinese medicine. It is quite a "work of art", I simply love it!

Excellent beginning for Oriental Medicine

I realize enthusiasm among reviewers for this text varies greatly. In the absence of identifying specific flaws, what we write may say more about us at the moment of our reading, than it says the about the text. However, I am personally skeptical about any review written by someone who did not bother to complete the book!!!

I had the first edition and admit I did not finish it. That was nearly 2 decades ago. I am not sure whether it was too far a stretch from my western graduate school and medical school education...or that I was just too busy to devote sufficient time and attention combined with an open mind.

I now have the 2000 edition. I intentionally approached this time with an open and curious mind -- looking for the bridges between eastern and western concepts of health and illness. Instead of rushing through to condense it into logical, highlighted memory bites, I simply let it wash over me. And during this time I attempted to let my western concepts of how the body works float in a suspended state to be retrieved and integrated at a later time.

I found that it provides a detailed but very readable "sky-view" of oriental medicine. It is not intended to provide specific treatment or diagnostic recommendations for an individual patient. Rather it builds the concepts upon which these later efforts can be refined. When you can see the bird's eye view of the terrain from above, its easier to see how cities, trees and rivers relate to each other and then draw your own map.

Reading from this perspective I truly enjoyed the book, its artistry and the holistic, natural metaphors connecting the microcosm of the body with the greater world and universe in which we exist. Refreshing!!!

I found it to be a wonderful invitation into the world of eastern medicine, whetting a respectful longing to learn more. I'm probably glad I lost the first edition and started over with the newer one.

Heller's Best as of yet.

So right off the bat, I see my favorite characters. Aiden, Chasca, Takeo and Angelo. Once Chapter 2 hits, BAM! HOOKED!!! The conflict is introduced right then and there. And then Chapter 3 hits, and the very much anticipated meeting is before us. AIDEN AND DORA
